Welcome to Collaborative Art Practices

Hello Everyone,

This blog will serve as a way for the class to communicate, collaborate, and share ideas about art.

It is recommended that you check the blog everyday because I will be updating it on a daily basis.  It is a requirement that you contribute to the blog at least 3 times a week.  The topics of your contributions are open.  At times, I will assign specific things for you to write about, but for the most part, you can write about anything art related.  This includes:

- Posting links to artist websites that you like.  Of course, you should do more than just link/photo posting.  You should explain everything you post. Each entry should be at least 3 paragraphs long.
- Posting photographs that you take.  Perhaps you are walking along in San Francisco and come upon some amazing graffiti and think "I should share this with the class." Well, the blog is the perfect place to do that.
- Writing about any museum visits.  Maybe you are visiting your aunt in Missouri and she just loves to go to the art museum.  While there, note the name of some artists, and pieces that captivate you.  Then, share them on the blog!
- Writing posts as responses to other posts.  Perhaps something that someone else blogged about prompted you to do some research, or to learn more about an artist.  You can blog about that as well.
As long as it is art-related, you can write about it here.

If you are having a hard time getting started, do a basic google or yahoo search on art and you will get more than you asked for.  Also, whenever I am stumped, I go to notcot.org, which is an amazing collection of different art/design websites.  There are millions of links on there to quality artist sites.

I am teaching this class from a  residency I am doing at the Women's Studio Workshop in Rosendale, New York.  Here is a link to their site:

In the next blog, I will explain exactly why artists do residencies and how they work.  In the meantime, you can look at their website.

I am looking forward to working with all of you in the coming weeks.  I think this is an exciting class and I am glad you are joining me for the next couple of weeks.

Happy art(ing).

Monika Meler
