Hi All,
Last night was eventful. I have been carving this for the last 6 months off and on and now it is finished. Last night at 10 pm, I sunk in my exacto blade for the last cut. I think this has about 150 hours worth of work in it!!!!! I am/was so excited, but man, my hands hurt.
Like this shape, most of my work is abstract. Abstract art is about simplifying, altering, and creating images that have no reference to any actual object. I know this shape looks like something, and most people have their own take on what that something is. These multiple interpretations make the creative process a continually evolving thing.
Although I have made art for a very long time now, I still consistently refer back to the Design Elements/Principles from your 1st reading. They are an important way of creating both balance and excitement and being able to communicate an idea. This weekend, I will post a presentation that reviews and explains the elements in further detail. Now that you have been able to make some drawings, you have already engaged with these elements. Next week, we will start our artist book assignment, which will make your understanding of the principles even more important.
Tonight I will post some photographs of the prints I have been making!!!
Monika
