Assignment #1

Karen Sadik

After pulling up the blinds, I look straight ahead out my window facing toward the outside of my backyard. The first thing I notice is how evenly a rusty dark brown fence marks the limit of space in my backyard. The top of the fence runs through this image horizontally right below the horizon line. On the right hand side of the fence one starts to notice that the wood has started to fade in color. You start to notice gradually growing patches of tan instead of brown that blend in and out of the wood of the fence.
Towards the inside of the fence, perfectly towards the middle against the wall of the fence, there lies a swinging porch chair. This swinging porch chair has a dark grey frame surrounding it which provides the outer structure of the chair. The chair itself is padded with a light cream cushion that surrounds the chair, so that it is comfortable to sit on. This chair is wide across, so that a person may lay down on it or share a seat with at least two other people. Right in front of this swinging porch chair towards the left side of it there are two white backyard chairs that are awkwardly placed right in front of each other, as if the two people sitting on them close together were facing one another in a conversation. Towards the left side of the fence very close to one of these chairs there is another division of that brown fence that cuts straight through it vertically. On the opposite side of this divided fence you see a  small bush full of leaves peaking just barley against the surface of the fence.
Going back to that first horizontal line of the brown fence that I first noticed, I see a huge amount of empty space that covers outside the fence of my backyard. This empty space is a huge field of grass. Most of this grass is yellow and looks extremely dried out, but there are areas toward the center and toward the right side that consist of patches of green. The green parts also look a lot fuller and taller in comparison with the dried out yellow grass. The middle and upper left side of this field has clear patches of grey and yellow. These seem to be the balder regions of the field, where not as much grass is grown. Overall it appears to look like an old beat up carpet that someone has carefully placed right outside of my fence.
When this field of grass ends, almost exactly parallel to my own brown fence, one can slightly see another division of brown fence along the other side. This time this line runs a little more than just above the horizon line. On the opposite side of this fence you can see three large two story houses running along side it horizontally. The size of these houses makes the fence seem a lot smaller than what my own appears to be.  Each of these houses resembles a large box, with a cone shaped roofs. The house in the center has a very distinct chimney that sticks out on its left side. Each house also consists of very large windows, with sliding doors right under them. This gives the impression of the houses being double story.
I hope that this description was not too confusing, once I started paying attention to detail I was almost lost in how much I had to explain. Through efforts of simplification, this is a picture of the outside my backyard that also looks out to a large field of grass that marks a chunk of empty space. After this empty space ends there is another fence and more houses just like mine that I see towards the opposite side.
